Catching up on posts

This is going back a couple of days. I've been writing but not always posting because I can't always get to a hot spot.

Roma day 3

The prices of things surprised me.  Yesterday I had pizza and a beer and it came to 8.5€.  I don't know why I thought things would be more expensive.  Probably because usually when we travel to places like New York or San Francisco I go through money so quickly.  I had a half bottle of wine at a restaurant and it was 3€.

This morning I have to take it a little easier.  My legs are hurting a bit from all the walking and running and I just haven't had much sleep.   This morning I wanted to get an early start again.  I left before 7:30 and the place I'm staying wasn't serving breakfast yet.  There was no place to sit and have breakfast.  Everything was closed.  They like to sleep in in this city.

Last night I came back to Marta's well after midnight and things were going strong.  In fact I left the museum of Castel Sant'Angelo at midnight!  That's right the museum was open until midnight.

It seems that after dark is the time to go to the museum.  If I had gone earlier I would have missed out on three "secret" areas that are not typically open.  Castel Sant'Angelo was originally built as a moseleum for Emperor Hadrian 100 and some years after Christ.  Since then it was a prison, a house for the Popes, a storage for food for the Romans and now a museum and cultural treasure.  How's that for recycling?

Time for me to go out and do some more exploring.  Can't spend all day writing, got to get out and do some doing.  -  gotta live my life!

  3. I didn't know you were heading to Italy. I would have given you the keys to my apartment in Arezzo! How long are you over there? Very happy to hear of your adventures. Try Ristorante La Lagana in Rome. On Via dell'Orso...and ask for the Chef's recommendations. My favorite place to eat in Rome.
I'll be anxious to hear more about your trip....and see pics as well. Enjoy, Mike!

  4. Mark, the food is incredible. Even when I stopped to get a little something at a campground in Florence it was delicious.

Alex, I may have a little more time in Rome before I leave. If I do I will definitely try your recommendation. Only a few days left now. It's my last night in Ripabottoni.

    Ciao tutti

  5. Jackie, if it's true about losing weight maybe I need to stay a little longer. I'll let you know when I've dropped enough weight to return home.
